Sentence case vs Title Case

Sentence case reads like prose and capitalizes after sentence endings (with a short abbreviation list for Dr., Mr., and similar). This Case Converter’s Title Case capitalizes major words for everyday headlines using WordMelo’s general policy. For sourced APA 7, MLA 9, Chicago 18, and AP composition-title capitalization with side-by-side comparison, use the Title Case Converter.

Programming case conversions

camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, and kebab-case rebuild phrase text into identifier tokens. Spaces and many punctuation marks become separators — formatting is intentionally lossy.

Does case conversion preserve formatting?

Everyday text modes preserve whitespace. Developer formats change word and character counts because separators are rewritten. See the note under Converted output when counts differ.

How Unicode case conversion works

  • Casing uses the en-US locale (US English) via JavaScript locale string methods.
  • Ordinary text modes (upper, lower, sentence, title, capitalize, alternating, inverse) preserve spaces, tabs, and line breaks.
  • Programming modes (camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case) intentionally rewrite whitespace and separators into identifier tokens.
  • Sentence case lowercases the input first, then capitalizes letters after `!`, `?`, newlines, or periods that are not in a short abbreviation list (Mr., Dr., etc.). Unusual abbreviations can still create false sentence starts.
  • Title Case follows a WordMelo general policy: capitalize major words and hyphen segments; keep a short list of small words lowercase unless first or last. It is not AP, APA, or Chicago Style.
  • Alternating case toggles only on letters, starting with lowercase; punctuation and digits do not shift the alternation.
  • Caseless scripts (for example many Arabic or Devanagari letters) are left unchanged by inverse/alternating where no upper/lower pair exists.
  • Emoji, ZWJ sequences, and combining marks are preserved as written; conversion never strips them.

After you normalize case, check length with the Word Counter, style a short bio with the Fancy Text Generator, or gather prompts with the Random Word Generator.

Frequently asked questions

Does case conversion preserve formatting?

Everyday text modes keep spaces, tabs, and line breaks. Developer formats (camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case) intentionally rewrite separators into identifiers.

What is the difference between sentence case and Title Case?

Sentence case capitalizes sentence starts. This page’s Title Case uses WordMelo’s general headline policy. For APA, MLA, Chicago, and AP composition-title rules with style comparison, open the Title Case Converter.

Can I convert text into camelCase or snake_case?

Yes. Open Developer formats and choose camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, or kebab-case. These modes tokenize on spaces, hyphens, underscores, and camel boundaries.

Is my text uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion runs locally in your browser. Drafts are not uploaded to WordMelo for casing.

Does it support Unicode characters?

Accented Latin letters follow the en-US locale. Emoji are preserved. Caseless scripts may stay unchanged for inverse or alternating modes.
